GPS TRACKING & 3D VISUALISATION FOR OUTDOOR SPORTING EVENTS
GeoRacing is an audiovisual/multimedia project, a joint venture of the French company TRIMARAN specialized in 3D and the Dutch company SPORT-TRACK, the French research laboratory TELECOM PARISTECH, with the support of the EUROPEAN SPACE AGENCY lending their satellite expertise.
Trimaran heads this project called EUREKA, along with Cap Digital, French business cluster for digital content and services, with the support of OSEO and ANR-RIAM.
Big sporting events around the world are increasingly the focus of the media:
¬ The media (TV, Internet, GSM...) are all investing in new ways to get personalised content to their audiences.
¬ Championships (organizers, teams and sponsors) expect real time coverage with a large number of highly precise parameters.
¬ The greater public is hungry for more specialized and personalized information.
GeoRacing intends to meet these expectations and proposes:
¬ To fit each competitor with small GPS / GSM trackers
¬ To present each one’s progress in real time during the event
¬ To maintain the geo-positioning databank
¬ Programs to visualize the data in 2D with realistic geo-graphics in addition to 3D real time images for organizers, teams and media (TV, Internet & GSM).
This project requires extensive research in the fields of satellite positioning, the miniaturizing of GPS/GSM trackers, telecommunication while in motion, 3D visualisation in real time with geo-graphics as well as the ergonomics that may apply for future applications of GEORACING.
